geometry patterns are also sometimes faster (easier to calculate by the software) and will also sometimes create patterned geometry when a standard pattern fails.Ībsolutely do not cut the body in half. this will mean that all the holes will have the same geometry. In the pattern options if you select "geometry pattern" it will replicate the geometry as created by the initial pattern, as opposed to replicating the properties that created the first hole. Keep in mind that "up to next" on a patterned hole might result in holes with different depths, if the "next" surface is different on a patterned hole than the initial hole. the resulting patterned cuts will reference the initial cut's end condition and each hole will terminate at the next surface. then create the fill pattern, and reference the initial cut. Instead, create a single circular cut-extrude, and extrude "up to next". if you create the cut using the pattern tool, you do not have full control over the cut operation. The simplest most obvious answer is this: with the fill pattern you can create the seed cut, or pattern an existing cut. I think it's crazy some of the responses you're getting that, frankly, are bad advice.
